What people say
A personal goal as a science teacher has been for my students to develop a love for learning in general and to develop a passion for science. William, MeJo and Nola, with the rest of the team of students, provided the best opportunity for the students to experience hands-on dissections and to increase their knowledge in anatomy. At the beginning, some of my students were worried that it would be too difficult. Down to Dissect made all the dissections fun and explained scientific terms in simple language, making the students comfortable—so much so that, at the end of the pig dissection, they were all showing their skills and knowledge. I am very grateful to each of you for fostering curiosity, making dissections accessible to anyone, for going the above and beyond, and for bringing this opportunity to us.
Ruth Gramajo, Science Teacher at the Portola Highly Gifted Magnet School For many of our students, this was their first exposure to real-world biology and anatomy. The volunteer educators from Down to Dissect provided an extraordinary combination of scientific knowledge and encouragement, transforming what might have been a daunting task into an inspiring exploration. [They] illuminated complex concepts in a way no textbook could replicate, an experience that seamlessly blended science, curiosity, and critical thinking. What makes Down to Dissect stand out as an organization is their dedication to inclusivity and accessibility. By providing this unique opportunity, they empowered all of our sixth graders to engage deeply with STEM education, regardless of prior experience or background.
Jason Trapp, Octavia E. Butler Magnet Instructional Coach Students who thought they ‘hated science’ were enthusiastically following directions, identifying parts of the animals and comfortably using the tools to remove identified organs. William and his team made the experience both challenging and fun. I’m grateful that the YOP youth were able to have a hands on learning experience that, for many, would be out of reach.
Lisa Wilson, Director of Youth Programs and Education at the Flintridge Center I did not have the resources to learn about anatomy, but they make it possible. They were very nice, knowledgeable and were very patient. Thank you
Reno, a student at the Portola Highly Gifted Magnet School The students from Down to Dissect were very nice. They helped me a lot during the dissections, and they answered all my questions. Thank you!
Samiksha, a student at the Portola Highly Gifted Magnet School
01
In-Person Dissection Events
We host in-person lab dissection events where our instructors will walk students through a complete fetal pig dissection. Students will learn anatomy and how to use dissection instruments. Contact us for details on upcoming events.
02
Virtual Dissection Labs
For students located outside of Southern California, we also offer virtual fetal pig dissection labs. Students will be able to learn about anatomy all in the comfort of their own living rooms or classrooms!
03
After-School Programs
For schools interested in hosting us, we will bring the fetal dissection lab directly to their classrooms! Our instructors will teach students anatomy and how to handle dissection instruments, all through hands-on activity.
